Bria Garner, LMFT

Clinical Director

I am a therapist, supervisor and ultimately an advocate for our black experiences. Through my work I use my voice to challenge disparities between agencies, providers and clients and the ongoing white supremacy systemically oppressive culture that has been cultivated in mental health. I advocate and serve for the health and well-being of black men, women and children across many avenues to create access, awareness and communal healing towards reframing our perspectives from surviving to thriving in our individual and communal spaces

Originally a Cincinnati native, after completing my B.A. in Psychology from the University of Cincinnati I moved to Minneapolis to finish my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy and ultimately built a connection to the city that has continued to grow ever since. One thing about me is that I believe that therapy is a collaborative approach and that no one is the expert in your life other than you. I believe therapy is a way to help guide you to where you want to be, because at the end of the day doing what you believe is right for you and/or your family is and always will be your choice . I believe communication and connection is the beginning of how we heal from difficult and confusing experiences throughout our lifetime. If we are truly going to show up as our best selves, then it starts with openness and vulnerability and the willingness to provide acceptance towards ourselves and others. I am passionate about building an inclusive space communally for black people to be their authentic selves without concerns of being associated with black stereotypical tropes and one-dimensional views of blackness.

In my free time, I would describe myself as a creative energy and a Gemini through and through who enjoys reading, arts & crafts, cooking, and learning more about holistic health and spiritual practices. I also enjoy filling my cup through my community engagement to expand my involvement in spaces that practice vulnerability, authenticity and build true relationships with other black folx so that we can continue to uplift each other and thrive.
